ENROLLMENT

Our Policies

Healthy children and healthy classrooms are a top priority at College Oak Montessori School.

Here you will find some of our most important policies. Please download the Parent Guidebook for a complete list and more information. The Parent Guidebook is an excellent reference with details about our program, what to send with your child to school, snack suggestions and more.

Wellness

Healthy children and healthy classrooms are a top priority at College Oak Montessori School. Simply stated, our sick policy is “Children must be able to function normally.” Keep your child home if she or he:
• has a fever or had a fever during the previous 48 hours
• has vomited or had diarrhea during the previous 48 hours
• has heavy nasal discharge
• has a constant cough
• is tired, fussy, cranky or generally out of sorts (rest at such times may prevent the development of illness)
• has lice or nits
• has symptoms of a possible communicable disease

Please phone the school immediately if your child has a communicable disease.

College Oak Montessori School accepts children with Incidental Medical Services (IMS). These services may include, but not limited to administering inhaled medications, blood-glucose monitoring, administering Epi-Pen and administering anti-seizure medications. Parents must inform staff of any of IMS needs. Additional paperwork will be given to you at this time.

Food at School

Healthy food is an important part of our program. Our campus is vegetarian and nut-free. We encourage wholesome, fresh foods (organic when possible) with no refined sugar or sugary items such as cookies, chocolate, cupcakes, etc.

Check In and Check Out Procedure

It is important that all parents remember to check their child in and out of school every day as required by the state licensing department. At COMS, electronic tablets are used to check the children in and out. Every authorized person who picks up or drops off a child has their own personalized PIN, which should not be shared with anyone.

Communication

Communication between home and school is essential. We want to hear from you if you have questions or suggestions, and if your child will not be at school for any reason. Our office staff checks voicemail and email throughout the day in case we miss your call.

Volunteer Information

Volunteers help make College Oak Montessori School a vibrant, exciting place for children. Parents, grandparents and friends lend their energy and expertise to help with a variety of projects including gardening, attending board meetings, helping at special events and more.

Character-Free Clothing

Clothing worn to school should be “character-free” and allow freedom of movement. “Character-free” clothes and shoes means no superheroes, action figures, Disney princesses, etc. Dr. Montessori stressed the importance of reality, rather than fantasy, for young children.

Emergencies / Disruption of School Operations

College Oak Montessori School makes every effort to hold school according to our published academic year calendar and summer schedule. However, COMS reserves the right to suspend its operations in the event of an emergency or disruption of school services, such as natural disaster; evacuations; power outages; unhealthy air quality; and compromised facilities/buildings.

If the school suspends operations for any reason, this may result in a modification to the school year or summer schedule without compensation.
